Business motto, business mission statement, business philosophy.
We are taught that these are important things to consider when starting a business. The experts tell us these things help create our brand and our image, so much thought must be put into crafting these three statements.
I agree with the professionals, so why did it only take about 10 seconds for me to come up with our philosophy?
One World Karate believes that it has a moral responsibility to lift every member to his or her highest potential, both emotionally and physically. One World Karate is a tool to enrich the lives of everyone it touches.
It’s simple, really. My business is built in service to my philosophy, not the other way around. You will hear it over and over again from me – this is NOT just a business. This is a service I am performing. This is a calling.
Why is this so?
I can explain my desire to make this school a reality in one word:
Family
I have been blessed with an amazing and unique family. We are a seven member family that deals with not one, not two, not three, but four members with special needs. My mother lost her hearing in one ear due to a childhood accident. I have lived my life with ADHD. My older sister is both Autistic and mildly Mentally Retarded (MR). My younger brother is only alive today because we adopted him and recognized his host of special needs including being legally deaf, blind in one eye, motor impaired, ADHD and a handful of IQ points above the legal definition of MR.
Today, all of us have rich, rewarding and full lives because as a family we lived by the same philosophy I adopted for my School. Growing up we accepted it as a family responsibility to lift each other up and to help each other to reach heights we never would have reached alone.
We have laughed, loved, cried, and sometimes raged at each other, but when push comes to shove, we have always been there for each other as well.
It’s Family.
There’s really nothing else to say.
